The Historical Venice Regatta

Venetians in historical dress row down the Grand Canal, from the Doge's Palace to the Rialto bridge, during the annual Historical Regatta
I just adore Venice in September!

Venice is amazing at any time of the year but September is special!
If you are thinking of getting married in Venice in September just
imagine how amazing it would be to get married on the Saturday
with the magic of Venice as your back drop, then the next day enjoy
the regatta with your friends and family!

The Grand Canal fills with exquisite 13-century boats and cavorting onlookers on this first Sunday of September. The regatta itself is four separate competitions, including a particularly compelling one between double-oared gondolas. Art displays, music, and celebrations abound among the boats and gondolas as well.

Even now the Regata Storica is one of the most spectacular, picturesque and moving events of Venetian life, capable of both charming the tourists and exciting the locals.

A historical procession commemorates the welcome given to Caterina Cornaro, wife of the King of Cyprus, in 1489 after she renounced her throne in favour of Venice. It is a procession of 16th century style boats, with the famous Bucintoro, the boat representing the Serenissima, at its head.

Then there are the races! Where the crowds join in with much gusto!
The rivalry between teams adds to the spirit of this historical day.
If you can visit Venice on the first Sunday of September it is an
amazing experience!
