Recently I have spotted a growing trend for non traditional wedding dresses. From the mini dress to the colourful wedding dress, anything but the white wedding dress seems to be going from strength to strength. I have often wondered if the bride consulted with her groom before she decided to strike out and make her very own fashion statement.

Who said the bride must wear a white dress??
Elie Saab |
These were the words I muttered this evening whilst talking to a friend and how true they are. What happens if you are not a bride who looks good in a white dress or are a bride who can't find a white dress that looks good on her?
Brides, defy tradition, stand up tall and wear what makes you feel amazing! If you are looking for something different, we have had a lot of fun compiling our favourite 10 looks for non traditional beautiful brides!

Winter warmers
I am a massive fan of a winter wedding (especially a winter wedding in Italy!) I love the different textures, layers and colours that we can play with. I also have a thing for open fires, hot chocolate and fresh snow. But what I am not a fan of is feeling cold and there is nothing worse than seeing a bride shivering and turning blue, which is why staying warm in style is so important for a winter bride!

Where, when, how, to pop the question!
The proposal, probably one of the most never wrecking moments in a mans life, but one that will be recounted for many years to come!
Anna had hired a photographer for a photo session with her boyfriend, Maksim during a holiday to Venice, but little did Anna know that Maksim had a plan of his own. He decided that this would be the perfect time for him to pop the question! Working with Luca Faz, their photographer, he made a plan for when and where it should happen.
Anna and Maksim strolled through St Marks square hand in hand and even though there was such a hustle and bustle, it still seemed like they were there all by themselves. Almost like they were in their own world. Transferring to San Giorgio they walked along the water, with St Marks in the backdrop, the time came for the big moment and their photographer caught it all. How special is that? You will never forget that moment when you realise that this other person wanted to be with you for the rest of their lives. It is simply magical.
Totally worth booking a photographer to capture the moment!

One Bride, One groom, will travel!! Part one...
When Sara first wrote to me asking for information, she introduced herself and her fiance as ''living in the US and love to travel!'' Sara and Jason had never been to Italy before, but Sara's great grandmother was from the old country and they felt it would be an ideal way to connect their past with their future!

Wedding dress shopping, where does one start?
Vera Wang |
Choosing the dress can set the theme for the whole wedding and we tend to go in with a pretty good idea of what we like and leave with a dress totally different but when you put it on... It felt perfect! Let's take a look at what will inspire future brides! 2014 is going to be a riot of colour, pink wedding dresses made a statement in last weeks fall wedding show, from the palest hint to rich deep pinks but they were not the only colours on show, gold is also shining through! Lace and vintage especially 1930s Hollywood glamour will still be going strong next year and texture is also going to be big. Sleeves and straps are making a welcome appearance and we have also seen separates and trousers. One very strong theme is detail, be it layers or lace over lays, the designers have excelled in the fall shows with some of the most breathtaking details!

’20 MARRIAGE TIPS EVERYONE NEEDS TO KNOW!’
As I wondered the web this morning I came across this article. We focus on the big day, that moment when two people very much in love join together and make a commitment to each other, full of hope and dreams for their future. However I am a romantic and a strong believer in the power of marriage, the team you create on that day is strong and will only grow in strength as you grow together. That is the hard part. No one ever said marriage is easy, you have to work at it and enjoy working at it. We found the 20 wise marriage tips below from a man who was recently divorced inspiring. You wouldn’t normally think that a divorced man would give good advice on being a husband, but this man has been through enough hardship to know what is worth fighting for...

When is the best time of the year to get married in Italy?
This is my favourite time of the year, mind you I do say that about spring time in Italy too, actually I also say it in the winter and summer months... Umm every season is perfect for a wedding in Italy! But in Autumn the leaves are changing colour and the sun filters through the air making cameras happy as photographers are able to capture truly stunning photographs!
Perfect for lunches outside and lush dinners inside beautiful venues, yet warm enough for outdoor bars and relax zones for later in the evening.
Not too hot that some of your guests will feel uncomfortable, but still hot enough that the sun worshippers will be happy.
Basically a wonderful time of year for a wedding in Italy!

Andrea and Anthony: A family wedding in Italy
When Andrea and Anthony first contacted me and told me the history of Anthony's grandfather leaving behind the small village of Livo, in the Trentino mountains, to move to America and how much it meant to the both of them to be able to get married in that village, I was moved by how they wanted to connect the past with their future.

To mop up happy tears!
Vintage is still a big theme in 2013 and its shaping up to still be going strong in 2014! One of the reasons I love vintage, is all the little details that makes it unique. The personal touches is what makes a wedding memorable. So when I came across the Wedding Chicks custom printed tea towels and hankies it started me thinking about printing on vintage hankies and check out what I found!

Emma and James part 4 - Just married lets party!
One of the things friends will tell you is take some time out in the day for yourselves, if you have a good photographer they will suggest taking you off for a short photo session alone. If you have a really good photographer you will have moments when you wont notice them and you can have a private moment... That's exactly what Emma and James had, beautifully captured by Cinzia Bruschini, before they rejoined their family and friends for the feast of Tuscan delicacies, then danced the night away to one of the best bands supplied by Alma Project. Enjoy!

Emma and James part 3 - The details
Emma and James wedding was a truly joyous and intimate event, one where all of their guests had the opportunity to enjoy the happy and romantic atmosphere of the Tuscan countryside. The wedding ceremony was celebrated in the garden of the delightful Villa Belpoggio, followed by the wedding reception and party. Their day was a wonderful reflection of their style and as I often say... It is all in the details...

Why we do our job...
Neil Walker climbing on boats to get the perfect shot of Sara and Jason wedding in Venice |
There is something magical about a wedding. This week I have been working with the talented Neil Walker and when asked how he got in to wedding photography he replied that whilst shooting a friends wedding as a favour, he thought there was something wrong with his camera and then realised it was because he was smiling so much he could not get his eye close to his camera. At that moment he understood the joy of shooting a wedding and seeing two people so happy that he decided to change the direction of his photography career. The rest as they say is history!

British nationals legal requirements to get married in Italy 2.
Scenario two
When a British National resident in the UK is marrying a foreign national (Italian or otherwise)
With effect from 1st March 2013, the procedure for British nationals, resident in the UK, planning to marry in Italy are as follows (if you are marrying an Irish national and you are resident in England and Wales, please see Scenario five listed on this website. If you are a British national UK resident marrying another British national UK resident please see Scenario one. If you are resident in the Channel Islands or Isle of Man please contact the Consular Section of the British Embassy in Rome)
You cannot start the documentation process more than 6 months before your wedding date, or 3 months if you are resident in Scotland.
The foreign national should separately contact their Embassy to understand the procedures they need to follow in order to marry in Italy.
The foreign national should separately contact their Embassy to understand the procedures they need to follow in order to marry in Italy.
There are 4 simple steps that each British national, resident in the UK, must follow to get the right paperwork for marrying in Italy.
Step 1 – Certificate of No Impediment
You need to obtain what’s called a Certificate of No Impediment, which is issued in the UK.
To do this you must give notice of marriage to your local registry office. After your notice has been posted for the required period you will be issued with a ‘Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage’, signed and dated by your local Registrar.
To do this you must give notice of marriage to your local registry office. After your notice has been posted for the required period you will be issued with a ‘Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage’, signed and dated by your local Registrar.
It is essential that the names you give to the Registrar, which will appear on your Certificates of No Impediment, are exactly the same as written in your passports. For example, Jim Harris on the Certificate, and James Harris-Ford on your passport might mean that the Italian authorities will reject your paperwork and refuse to allow the marriage to go ahead. Please take your passport with you to the Registry Office, just to be absolutely certain.
Step 2 – The Statutory Declaration
While you are waiting for your Certificate of No Impediment you should make a statutory declaration before a solicitor or public notary in the UK. You can download the bi-lingual statutory declaration here.
The declaration is required by the Italian authorities and gives additional information that isn’t detailed on your Certificate of No Impediment. The solicitor or public notary will charge a fee for this service. Fees will vary so it might be worth shopping around.

Step 3 – Legalising your documents for the Italian authorities
When you have your Certificate of No Impediment and you have made your Statutory
Declaration, you need to send them both to the FCO Legalisation Office in Milton Keynes for each to be legalised with a Hague Apostille. The Legalisation Office will charge for this – please check the current charges and procedure on the Foreign and Commonwealth Office website.
Declaration, you need to send them both to the FCO Legalisation Office in Milton Keynes for each to be legalised with a Hague Apostille. The Legalisation Office will charge for this – please check the current charges and procedure on the Foreign and Commonwealth Office website.
Step 4 – Translation of your Certificate of No Impediment (CNI)
Once both these documents have been legalised, you will then need to have the legalised Certificate of No Impediment translated. As it will become an Italian legal document it should be translated by a translator based in Italy and sworn before the Italian courts or an Italian Justice of the Peace. (Please note that Italian Town halls may also accept other types of official translation not covered in this guidance). The Italian wedding planner offer this service. A fee will be charged – fees vary depending on the translator. They will also charge a delivery fee to have the translation couriered back to you or to your wedding planner. The Statutory Declaration does not need to be translated since it is already in both languages.
The British national resident in the UK should have:
- A Certificate of No Impediment – issued in the UK, legalised in the UK and then translated officially in Italy
- A bilingual Statutory Declaration legalised in the UK
- Passport
- Any further documents specifically requested by yourComune of marriage.
Once all of these documents have been prepared, they should be sent direct to either your wedding planner or to the town hall where you intend to get married. There is no longer any requirement for wedding documentation for British Nationals resident in the UK to be sent to any British Consular Section in Italy for further processing.
It is always advisable for you, or your wedding agent, to check with the Town Hall where you intend to marry regarding extra documentation, for example photocopies of the passports of your witnesses, or how many days prior to the wedding you need to visit their offices.
It is always advisable for you, or your wedding agent, to check with the Town Hall where you intend to marry regarding extra documentation, for example photocopies of the passports of your witnesses, or how many days prior to the wedding you need to visit their offices.
Please note, under Italian law, a woman who has been divorced or widowed and wishes to re-marry in Italy cannot do so until 300 days have passed from the date of her divorce/death of husband. It is possible, however, to apply for a dispensation to this through the Civil Law Courts (Tribunale Civile). Further information should be obtained from the town hall (Comune) of the area where the marriage is to take place and you will probably need to appoint a lawyer.
Remember to ask the Comune to issue a multilingual marriage certificate for you after the ceremony if this is available. If not, the certificate will have to be translated into English.
Finally please note that your Certificate of No Impediment will be valid for six months from the date on your English, Welsh or Northern Irish CNI or three months if presenting a Scottish CNI.
